WHEN we last checked, there were 31 days, 16 hours, 49 minutes and 27 seconds (tick tick tick…) to the Channel Seven Brisbane Racing Carnival at Doomben Racecourse.
WHEN: Saturday, May 12-Saturday, June 9, 2018
WHERE: 75 Hampden St, Ascot, Qld
This year’s carnival caters to all budgets while offering a mind-boggling variety of events on and off the field to keep even the least equine-inclined patrons engaged.
Let’s not forget the world-class Group 1, 2 and 3 races that are the raison d’etre for this incredible party across four glorious Saturdays in May and June.
But fashion and food are also key components of the carnival that elevate it to a celebration of the “Sport of Kings” and all other wonderful indulgent things.
World-class racing events are par for the course at the carnival but must-sees include…
May 12 – the Group 1 KIRIN Doomben 10,000, which is considered one of the nation’s best weight for age races.
May 19 – hold onto your horses for the Group 1 Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup.
June 9 – prize money of more than $3.8 million will be contested across three Group 1 races and three Group 2 races including the UBET Stradbroke Cup.
When all eyes aren’t turned to the racecourse, they will be trained on the continuous fashion parade…
May 26 – the QueensPlaza Fashions on the Field is one of the major drawcards on Treasury Brisbane Ladies Oaks Day. Apparently the prizes are awesome for both male and female entrants, so get your best frocks and suits lined up in a row for the big day.
Other highlights include the Carnival Milliner’s Market, Maker’s Mark Carnival Ball and Paspaley Pearls Carnival High Tea.
A range of packages are available from the affordable General Admission from $25 per person to the extravagant $635 per person for The Birdcage. And let’s not even mention the Chalets with a price tag of more than $6000 each.
