There are some great things to experience in Hamilton that are all within a short drive, or even walking distance, from Link Portside Wharf boutique Apartments. We’ve listed six places that you could easily knock out during a weekend at Link Portside Apartments.
1 – Walk out the Link Portside Wharf front doors and find yourself at Portside Wharf, a shopping, entertainment and dining mecca all in the same precinct. Whilst it may only take a few steps to get here you can definitely clock up some steps wandering around looking at all the clothing, homewares, sports and other stores, hopping between fab cafes, restaurants and bars or walking through to the Dendy Cinemas to catch the latest movie.
2 – Just a few minutes drive from Link Portside you’ll find Eagle Farm and Doomben Racecourses. Enjoy a flutter on the horses or just go along and soak in the atmosphere. Doomben is the newer of the two with Eagle Farm Racecourse dating back to 1865. Its claim to fame is that its racing roots are in the early settlements with the first settlers heading to the track to enjoy a punt on the horses. It’s worth experiencing it just to see the heritage Victorian and Federation buildings that have been restored to their former glory.
3 – Visit the iconic Breakfast Creek Hotel with a rich history dating back to 1889, for a delicious meal where you can choose and cook your own steak in the Beer Garden, enjoy your steak being cooked for you in the Spanish Garden Steakhouse, or savour an award-winning eye fillet steak pie from the Creek Café. If you like rum you’re in luck as Breakfast Creek is not only famous for its premium quality steaks but also for having the largest Rum Bar in the southern hemisphere. Walk off your meal with a ½ hour stroll by the Brisbane River back to your Link Portside Wharf accommodation.
4 – In just 15 minutes walk you can find yourself enjoying barefoot lawn bowls, a classic Aussie sport, and some delicious pub food. Slip your shoes off and feel the grass under your feet at Gallopers Sports Club which is located on Lancaster Rd. Afterwards, enjoy a brew and one of their daily meal deals.
5 – Feeling peckish? Why not head down to Eat Street Northside which is also a 15 minute walk away. Located down near the Brisbane River at 221D Macarthur Avenue, you’ll enter a world of amazing street food vendors that are set up in converted shipping containers on a disused wharf. You’ll find everything from Poke bowls, Peruvian paellas and Argentinian ribs, through to churros, American floats and mega donut icecream cones. It’s open every Friday and Saturday from 4-10pm and Sundays from 4-9pm. Entry costs $5, which includes entertainment and bands.
6 – Less than 10 minutes drive from Link Portside is DFO Brisbane If you are not up with shopping lingo, DFO stands for Direct Factory Outlet. This mega centre located in the Skygate precinct near the Brisbane Airport is home to a mind-boggling mix of outlet stores selling everything from Australia’s favourite brands through to International designer labels at up to 70% off retail prices.
Of course, you could just spend 48 hours relaxing in your Link Portside Wharf apartment, popping out occasionally to enjoy the amazing restaurants in the area, a day spa, and a walk along the Brisbane River but we think that the places we’ve listed are well worth checking out.
